Winnipeg International Salsa Congress 2017 is presented by Ana Karen Lopez and Salsa Explosion
Ana Karen Lopez
For many years, Ana Karen has excelled in dance in Manitoba, nationally, and internationally. She is a three-time Manitoba Dance Festival Ballet scholarship recipient and was the featured ballet soloist at an MDF Gala showcase. She most recently placed in the “top twelve” of 145 dancers at the international ballet competition Youth American Grand Prix. Ana also achieved the highest overall score for all senior solos at the Canadian National Dance Championships for her Pointe solo; the first time the highest overall score was awarded to a ballet number in Winnipeg. She also took the highest overall score for all entries, including groups, at the Thunderstruck Canada dance competition and the 5678 Showtime Competition. Ana Karen trains at Marquis Dance Academy after two years in the RWB’s professional division. She has continued her professional development as a ballet teacher studying at the world-famous American Ballet Theatre in New York.
As a member of Salsa Team Canada (Small Team Salsa Showcase) Ana Karen placed second at the World Salsa Summit in Miami. (2017)

Salsa Explosion Dance Company specializes in Salsa, but also encompasses Bachata, Colombian Bachata, Merengue, and Cha Cha Cha. The company is committed to promoting and encouraging salsa education and performance in Winnipeg.
